It's a fact, say a year ago you would never in a million years catch me bopping down the road wearing a pair of stiletto metallic sock boots. Honestly, they'll blind you if you stare at them too long, they look like liquid metal.
You see I used to play it extremely safe when it came to dressing myself (and probably still do ha!), I'd always stick to the same colours and styles (not that there's anything wrong with that at all) but I was never adventurous even though I really wanted to be. Hands up if you've ever picked up the most beautiful piece of clothing and thought 'love this but Nah I cant pull this off ' and then puts it down. Because I HAVE and let me tell you, all the clothes that I never bought because I chickened out, down to this day still haunts me.
I have to tell you though, I did get a few weird looks whilst I was shooting this outfit like I'm sorry Susan that my boots are too sassy for you to handle.
For me its all too easy to get stuck in a rut and then I tend to become fearful when trying to get out of it again - STRESS.
Okay, I'm not going to make out like i'm the bravest one in the world when it comes to dressing myself because I'm not, BUT, now I am more likely and open to wearing things that I would never have even considered before. Take for instance some of my previous outfits I've put together - frayed hem jeans, orange suits, yellow dresses - ok they don't really seem like 'out there' pieces, but for me, it was a big deal. Every time I wear something out of my comfort zone I become a tad bit braver.
I know that one of the main things that have always held me back from wearing certain things that I really wanted to is the fear of being judged by others, when I was younger I was terrified of standing out - you know, sticking out like a sore thumb. But what I've realised is that what random people think of your outfit is irrelevant to your happiness. And plus we've all done it right? - Made an internal observation about how someone else is dressed, some of our opinions may be negative and some positive.
That person who just walked past you and gave your outfit a weird stare most probably forgot about you 2 seconds later. People will always comment whether you're wearing a bin bag or something designer, so whatever you wear you might as well well wear it stylishly.
