I would love to be able to blame all of my body insecurities on social media (even though this does play a big part for all of us) however it's not all to blame. Before shooting these images I was so nervous. Apart from wearing a bikini (which I find scary enough), I find wearing gym clothing absolutely terrifying. Gym wear can sometimes be a little tight, you know hugging all the 'wrong' places you're trying to hide.
Throughout my secondary school years, I suffered from poor body image and low self-esteem. I was so ashamed of my skinny legs and all the acne scarring I had all over my back. Everyone says that you should accept yourself as you are with your flaws and all, including your body. Easier said than done though isn't it.
The most important promise I made to myself is that I would learn to love everything about myself, even the annoying mannerisms I have or the parts of my body I wasn't particularly fond of.
1. To always be content with me -
I've promised myself to always be content with how I look. I never want to fall into the trap where I become obsessed with someone else's appearance till the point where I feel completely discouraged about how I look. Or I'd never want to fall into the trap where I let social media and society dictate to me which body size of the type of appearance is acceptable. To never take me for granted, seeing all the horrific events going on in the world today; I cant take the life that I have for granted.
2. To always remember there's more to me than just my physical appearance -
Sometimes we fuss over our appearance so much we forget that it's not the be all and end all of life. The scars on your face or body are only skin deep. A few people (not all) might just see the surface of you: your face, your hair, your body etc. I know my chubby cheeks, skinny legs and the marks on my skin are not what my friends and family think of when they think of me. I know they think of my loud laugh or bubbly personality.
3. To never reason 'well that's just how I am' - Always remembering that there is room for improvement in every aspect of my life.

4. I will always value myself and never settle for less.
Remembering these 4 promises helps me to be stronger every day. Because remember there's only 1 of you.
